Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) occur when the median nerve become pinched or constricted at the wrist, as it passes through a narrow space. This causes pins and needles, weakness and sometimes pain. Many people have sleep disturbance too.
If non-surgical treatments like splints and injections medicines don't work then surgery is recommended. The procedures is done under local anaesthetic. It's safe, and highly effective in relieving symptoms and restoring hand function.
Cubital tunnel syndrome (also called ulnar neuropathy at the elbow) is when the ulnar nerve becomes pinched, stretched or irritated around the elbow. The problem spot is your "funny bone". It causes numbness and pins & needles in the little finger which wakes some people from sleeping. If untreated, it can lead to weakness in the hand, permenant deformity and disability. The treatment is a minor operation to release the nerve at the elbow, which can be done awake or asleep, through standard incision or through keyhole surgery. Overall, 9 in 10 people benefit from surgery.
Arthritis of the hand makes joints stiff, swollen and painful. Although arthritis cannot be cured, several treatments can help hands feel better:
Medicines: Creams, pills, or special injections help reduce swelling and stop the ache.
Splints: Wearing a custom splint supports the sore thumb or fingers and lets the joints rest, especially during sleep or busy activities.
Surgery: If the pain is severe, surgeons can replace the arthritic joint with a new artificial one
Dupuytren’s contracture (pronounced doo-puh-trenz) is where the tough tissue under the palm becomes unusually thick. Over time, tight bands form that pull the fingers inwards toward the palm (contracture). It usually affects the ring and little fingers, making them get stuck in a bent shape so they cannot straighten out. This makes simple tasks, like putting your hand in a pocket or holding a ball, much harder. It's best to visit your doctor when the contracture is mild.
Treatment: After numbing the hand, we carefully remove the tight bands under the skin to straighten out the fingers again. Most people need a few weeks to recover and get back to normal daily activities.
Trigger finger is a problem where your finger or thumb gets stuck when you try to bend or straighten it. It might pop or snap suddenly, like pulling a trigger on a toy gun. This happens because the tendons that move your fingers get swollen or develop a lump, causing it to get stuck. It makes it hard to use your hand and can hurt. It often affects people who use a tight grip a lot.
